Personas in Cross-Cultural Projects
نویسنده
چکیده
Personas are a method to communicate data about users and to aid in the perception of users. The method is supposed to create a shared perception of the users that is not built on preconceived ideas, but on field data. The paper presents an experiment where the same persona description was sent to 16 participants in 9 countries. The participants were asked to return a photo that resembled the persona and explain their choice. Analysis of the photos and the explanations show that there is a difference between the participants with professional experiences and those without. The experienced tend to interpret the text and use people in their own immediate surroundings in the explanation for choosing the photo. The second group tends to find exact words and use these as explanation. The photos they choose are of stereotypical businesspersons. The different strategies might hinder engagement in the persona.

A Critique of Personas as representations of "the other" in Cross-Cultural Technology Design
A literature review on cross-cultural personas reveals both, a trend in projects lacking accomplishment and personas reinforcing previous biases. We first suggest why failures or incompleteness may have ensued, while then we entice a thoughtful alteration of the design process by creating and validating personas together with those that they embody. Personas created in people’s own terms suppor...

Globalization of the construction industry has brought unique challenges such as coordination among project participants from different countries. This research attempts to understand cultural differences in international joint-venture (IJV) teams composed of Japanese and American participants, and to develop a prototype computational model— “Cross-Cultural”-Virtual Design Team (CC-VDT)—to seek...

Approaches to competence development have tended to focus on training to reach a required level of performance in simple and reproducible contexts, rather than in the more complex and hard-to-replicate contexts that characterize real-world projects, especially projects that involve people from other cultures. This paper explores how the Serious Games approach can be exploited to create skills i...
متن کاملUse-Cases and Personas: A Case Study in Light-Weight User Interaction Design for Small Development Projects
While user interface design is generally considered important to the success of an information system, in both design and practice traditional methodologies it is often left to the last when most of the rest of the information system design has been finalized. What are needed are tools to design a logical model of user interaction requirements. This paper presents how two tools, personas and us...

As the need for instructing a globalized workforce increases, instructional designers must embrace the constraints and the opportunities these projects provide in order to move the field of cross-cultural instructional design (ID) forward. Cross-cultural projects offer multiple avenues for growth in ID practice, overcoming cultural barriers, and a venue to apply and test contemporary models, me...
